Jessie Jewels Bio Jessie has always had a passion for the arts. She grew up in a household of artists and craftsmen. At a young age she started to take art classes in sculpting and ceramics. Enjoying the tactile experience of working with her hands she began working in jewelry making and beading. She created her first business, Jessie's Jewels, at the age of 12, where she sold jewelry to her mom’s friends, family and her school teachers.
Her love of art and running her own business continued to progress into adulthood. She started to develop her voice as an artist and opened her business Jessie Jewels Art, dropping the apostrophe. Jessie started selling her work in local outdoor art markets such as Waterfire and the Scituate Arts Festival. This eventually led to her first showing in a gallery exhibit, Ways of Working Water. This show curated by Rachel Brask featured the works of four female artist. All of the artist’s work depicted the many facets of water. Shortly after Jessie collaborated on her next duo exhibit with the photographer David Lee Black. The show titled Black & Blue featured Jessie’s highly saturated resin paintings juxtaposed against Black’s monochromatic Black and White Photography. At the opening reception Jessie’s music and movement performance group Soul In-Motion literally lit up the stage area with an LED hula hoop dance and music combination for the enjoyment of the exhibit guests. Jessie’s background in education (B.S. in Education Studies from Rhode Island College), her experience as an art teacher for St. Mary’s School (North Providence, RI), and her training instructing yoga and meditation (200 hour yoga teacher training with Coral Brown) has led her to developing her own curriculum and workshops teaching art out of her home studio and across Southern New England. Jessie is a member of Providence Artisans market. Her work can be found in local galleries and shops, at the Hope Street Artisan's Market, Waterfire Arts Plaza, Scituate Arts Festival and other local art festivals. When Jessie is not working in her studio or teaching art workshops she can be found spinning her hula hoop (sometimes on fire) or spending time in nature.
